Chief Executive Officer, Peninsula Health Care District

Background: Cheryl A. Fama came out of retirement to accept the position as Chief Executive Officer for the Peninsula Health Care District on May 1, 2007. Prior to this new career, Cheryl was the President/Chief Executive Officer of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. She began her tenure with Saint Francis in 1984 as Vice President of Patient Care Services and rose through the administrative ranks holding the positions of Chief Operating Officer, President/Site Administrator, to President and CEO - the position from which she retired in October 2006. A lifetime resident of San Mateo County, Ms. Fama began her career as a critical care nurse in 1970 at Seton Medical Center - then Mary's Help Hospital, and held administrative positions in hospitals from 1981 until retirement.
Community Affiliations: She has served as co-chair of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Health Advisory Committee and has been a member of the S.F. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the California Medical Associations' Institute for Medical Quality Survey Committee, and the Episcopal Community Services Board. She currently serves on a broad range of community boards that include the Saint Francis Foundation, Archbishop Riordan High School, the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, and the California Transplant Donor Network, where she serves as Secretary/Treasurer.
Cheryl has received a number of community awards and honors, as well as, recognition by The San Francisco Business Times as one of the "Most Influential Women in Business in the Bay Area" five times: 2003 - 2006 and 2009. A recent highlight was the naming of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital's annual lecture for Nurses' Day the "Cheryl Fama Annual Distinguished Nurse Lecture".
She holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing, both from the University of San Francisco, and still maintains an active RN license. She is also a graduate of the Leadership San Mateo, Class of 2009.
Cheryl and her husband Denis live in Millbrae and are the proud parents of 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Jan Matejcik
Administrative Assistant, Peninsula Health Care District

Ms. Matejcik, a lifetime resident of the Bay Area, joined the District in November 2007. She brings nearly 20 years of experience from her positions as Senior Administrative Assistant and Marketing Coordinator with such prestigious firms as Shell Oil Products Company, Elan Pharmaceuticals, and Mills-Peninsula Health Services. She is responsible for a full range of administrative duties as she helps the District team carry out its activities. These include serving as a receptionist, arranging meetings and materials, developing and maintaining the District’s mailing list, setting up and maintaining the filing system in the new office and managing the important archival material for this public agency.
Jan is an avid exercise enthusiast uses her treadmill and goes to aerobics regularly, but much prefers long walks in the hills around her home in Pacifica. Jan is a proud mother and grandmother.
