The Peninsula Health Care District launched a new Center for Dental Health and mobile dental outreach program in May 2015, which will be the first of its kind on the West Coast. The Center for Dental Health is located on PHCD-owned property at 430 N. El Camino Real in San Mateo. PHCD is leasing its building to Apple Tree Dental for 10 years, assisted with financing the tenant improvements and purchase of equipment, and provided operating capital for the launch through a $2 million impact grant.

Apple Tree Dental is a non-profit organization based in Minnesota with a 30-year record of providing high quality dental care to all ages, incomes, and cognitive status. In addition to offering general restorative dentistry and specialty care at its San Mateo clinic location, the Center for Dental Health will also provide dental treatment in nursing care institutions, assisted living facilities, group homes, and schools. The San Mateo Center will be directed by Dr. Dick Gregory, a local dentist who recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Geriatrics at UCSF.
