 Volunteer of the Year: Sherry Rayner from Pathways Home and Hospice Care

Sherry Rayner from Pathways Home and Hospice Care was recognized as one Peninsula Health Care District’s 2016 Volunteers of the Year. Ms. Rayner has been a Pathways volunteer for more than 20 years. Over the past 10 years she has served on the Kids Team. In this role, she provides assistance to families with children on hospice care. Sherry connects with, comforts, and cares for children facing illnesses which cut short their young lives. She provides emotional support for the children, their siblings, and their families throughout this most difficult and emotional time. Sherry developed the Pathways Bear Hugs program which provides a warm, cuddly teddy bear to be a confidant and pal who accompanies patients on their journey and their bear is always available for a comforting hug whenever needed. Ms. Rayner was recognized at Peninsula Health Care District’s eighth annual Community Partners Event as one of the 2016 Volunteers of the Year. PHCD is grateful for her countless hours of service and for the tremendous impact she is making on the organization and the health of the community.
