Encouraging Interaction

The Peninsula Wellness Community is designed to be a hub of services and gathering spaces that are attractive to residents of the surrounding neighborhoods. Easily accessible pedestrian and bike pathways will lead to and through the site. An onsite café and “The Hub” will encourage social interaction between residents, employees, visitors, and adjacent neighbors.

Working “edible gardens” and landscaped areas are woven into the site and will create new open spaces for the adjacent neighborhood. The 60′ wide Hetch-Hetchy right of way that connects through the site from Marco Polo Way to Trousdale provides an opportunity for an agricultural garden. The District is exploring potential partnerships for implementing a robust gardening program that could provide local grown produce and serve as a valuable teaching venue for nearby schools. A variety of other landscaped areas will be designed to encourage gathering and interaction, as well as providing spaces for meditation and contemplation.
