Cheryl Fama, CEO
Cheryl Fama joined the Peninsula Health Care District as its Chief Executive Officer on May 1, 2007.
A lifetime resident of San Mateo County, Ms. Fama spent her professional life in health care, starting as a critical care nurse, retiring from hospitals as the President/CEO of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, and now focusing on community-based health and wellness for the Peninsula Health Care District.
Ms. Fama leads with an upstream approach and commitment to advancing strategies that build community capacity and capabilities. She has nurtured cross-sector partnerships throughout and beyond the County, which have been instrumental in accelerating the mobilization of resources, especially during challenging times.
During her tenure, the District completed three strategic and financial planning processes, developed the Peninsula Wellness Community master plan, launched Sonrisas Dental Health, the PHCD Health & Fitness Center and The Trousdale assisted living/memory care community, and fortified existing community programs and services through strategic leadership and grants support.
Ms. Fama has served on a broad range of community and service organization boards and committees including the Association of California Healthcare Districts, the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women, San Mateo County Healthy Community Collaborative, San Mateo County Oral Health Coalition, San Mateo Leadership Program and Burlingame Rotary.
Ms. Fama holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, both from the University of San Francisco and still maintains an active RN license.
